Here’s a step-by-step guide to integrating Intercom as a live customer support channel using Bit Assist:

Setup a Channel

  1. To add Intercom to your website using Bit Assist, first create a new widget or edit an existing one. If you already have a widget, simply click on the Edit option to integrate Intercom into it.

  1. Click on add channel to add the support assistant of your choice.

  1. Search for and select your preferred channel from the available options in the channel popup.

  1. Channel Title: Set an appropriate Channel Title, which by default is “Intercom.” This title serves as descriptive text to inform visitors about the channel.

  1. Make Sure to add the Intercom script to your website.
  • Log in to Intercom: Start by logging into your Intercom account.
  • Access Settings: Click on the Settings option located at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  • Select Channels: In the left sidebar, navigate to Channels and select it.
  • Choose a Channel: Pick the channel you want to integrate. For this example, select Messenger.
  • Go to Install Section: Within the Messenger settings, find and click on the Install section.
  • Choose Installation Method: Under “Choose how to install Messenger,” select the Code Snippet option.
  • Configure the Code Snippet: Select Website visitors without logins under “Configure your code snippet.”
  • Copy the Script: Switch to the Basic JavaScript tab and copy the provided script.
  • Insert the Script into Your Website: Access your website and paste the script into the body section of your website’s HTML.
  • Use a Plugin for Simplicity: If you prefer, use a third-party plugin to insert the script. For this demonstration, we used a third-party plugin to accomplish the integration.
